Big in Japan

Tama the Stationmaster runs the show at her station along the
Kishigawa Line on the Wakayama Electric Railway in Japan. In 2007 she was appointed Staionmaster at a previously untended staion along the line. Since then, ridership is way up on the once struggling railway. Tourists visit this out of the way station just to see Tama. See the full story and a better translation of what's happening in this video at Japan Probe.

Great links about Tama, Mortimer, thank you. I saw her on the BBC site a while ago, but there were no videos and only one little picture.

I really like her and her hat. She's so placid amidst all that attention. I hope she gets some holidays.
